A classic Tuscan summer villa originally built in the first half of the 1800's, Villa Cassuto is located on the foothills of Montenero, near Livorno (also known as Leghorn). The views from Montenero out toward the islands and the genteel lifestyle of the place have long served as inspiration for artists and writers alike, perhaps most notably the Tuscan Impressionists (Macchiaioli) and the poet Lord Byron and Shelley. Villa Cassuto long served as home to one of Livorno's oldest families and has now been opened up to guests who wish to experience the exclusive and elegant side of Italian living of another period. All of the airy rooms in the villa have their own bath. Breakfast is always served on a dressed and decorated table, often in the tended Italian garden where you will be surrounded by the largest collection of roses in the area. Tea and coffee service is offered all day. At sunset you'll be served an aperitif while the painted skies over the Mediterranean Sea inspire you for the next day's adventures. The kitchen at Villa Cassuto is maintained strictly Kosher (as per family tradition) while offering fresh Tuscan cuisine the way it is supposed to be prepared. Those keeping Glatt Kosher can be accommodated as can those with particular dietary requests. Sea breezes at the Villa keep summer temperatures from becoming unbearable (unlike inland Tuscany) and the location is quite convenient for summer bathing at the sea, islands boat tours(Elba, Capraia and Corsica) or for day trips to explore Pisa, Florence, Lucca, and the much-storied countryside .
