Santa Maria della Consolazione, situated in the historic town of Todi in Umbria, is a Renaissance pilgrimage church that exemplifies the balanced elegance of a Greek‑cross plan crowned by a soaring dome. Commissioned in the early 16th century and completed in 1607, it was designed by a succession of architects including the famed Donato Bramante, Antonio di Sangallo il Giovane, and Giacomo Vignola. Inside the church, visitors encounter a harmonious blend of stone, marble, and bronze, with twelve niches housing statues of the apostles and a central wooden statue of Pope Martin I. The high dome, supported by a square terrace and four eagle finials, rises above the north transept, offering a dramatic interior volume and striking views of the surrounding Tuscan countryside.
