Lose yourself in art, as the city of Venice hosts a six-month-long festival of the visual arts (from the end of May until mid-November every two years). The two main venues are the Giardini and the Arsenale at the far end of the island. Though, some of the real treasures can be found in what are known as 'collateral' events, held in palazzos and gardens that are usually closed to the public.
