Trullo Sovrano
About
The Trullo Sovrano museum is a unique historic trullo located in the heart of Alberobello, the famed “Capital of Trulli”. Built in the early 17th century with a later addition in the 18th century, it is the only trullo with an elevated floor, accessed from the interior by a stone staircase. The great conical dome, standing 14 metre tall, dominates a group of twelve conical structures that illustrate the evolution of trullo architecture. Inside, the museum offers a window into the social life and craftsmanship of the region. Visitors wander through the richly furnished rooms: the main hall, bedroom, dining room, primary kitchen with a preserved fireplace, secondary kitchen that once served as a bakery, staircase, upper floor, and the extensive gardens. Every space reveals authentic furnishings and artifacts that showcase the domestic and architectural traditions of the Puglian countryside. Whether you are an architecture enthusiast, a history lover, or simply seeking an atmospheric cultural experience, the Trullo Sovrano provides an intimate journey into the past. The museum’s concise visits allow guests to appreciate the artistry of the stonework and the ingenious design that made this trullo a pioneer among its peers. Tickets for access can be bought on‑site or in advance on the official booking page, ensuring a hassle‑free visit to this treasured heritage site.
