About

In 1863 a group of scholars gathered in the house of Agostino Gallo forming the Assemblea di Storia Patria. In 1864 the New Society for the History of Sicily was created. In 1873 the Prefect of Palermo inaugurated a Society for the History of the Sicilian homeland. Today the scientific activity of the Institute is widely appreciated in Italy and abroad. The museum opened on 1918. The museum contains weapons of various periods, large swords art donated by Garibaldi, the flag flying on the journey of the Thousand, memorabilia, uniforms, busts in marble and bronze, and valuable documents. War with his devastating fury had caused serious damage to this magnificent collection but after the storm the museum was rebuild and restored to his former glory.
