Italo, officially Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori S.p.A. (NTV), is Italy’s pioneering private high‑speed rail operator. Since the first journey in 2012, the company has offered fast, comfortable travel between Italy’s major cities, connecting 54 destinations across the country on both dedicated high‑speed lines and conventional tracks. Passengers can choose from three distinct travel classes: Smart, Prima Business and Club Executive. Each class provides different levels of comfort and amenities – from standard 2‑by‑2 seating with free Wi‑Fi in Smart, to a 2‑by‑1 layout with snack service in Prima Business, and large armchairs with personal entertainment screens plus lounge access in Club Executive. All services run on modern rolling stock, including the 300‑km/h AGV and the 260‑km/h Pendolino train families. Founded in 2006 by a consortium of industry leaders, NTV launched its first branded Italo service in 2012, swiftly becoming Europe’s first privately owned high‑speed operator. In 2024, the company remains a prominent player on the Italian high‑speed network, with a market share that has grown steadily over the years.
