Santuario della Madonna dello Splendore
About
Located in the heart of Giulianova, the Santuario della Madonna dello Splendore is a revered Catholic shrine steeped in history and devotion. Founded in the late 16th century after the reported apparition of the Virgin Mary in 1557, the sanctuary has grown into a complex that includes a magnificent church, a miraculous spring, a grand bronze Via Crucis, and a portico of mosaics. Visitors can stroll the 450‑meter Via Crucis, admire the bronze statues of the Stations of the Cross created by Ubaldo Ferretti, and pause at the fountain that reflects the story of Bertolino’s miracle. Inside the church, Baroque architecture and an array of frescoes and religious art invite contemplation. Open daily from 6 am to 1 pm and again from 3 pm to 9 pm, the sanctuary welcomes pilgrims, families, and history enthusiasts seeking spiritual solace and cultural enrichment.
