About

The historical news related to the castle of Ponti sul Mincio can be obtained only from general studies and because of the lack of monographic investigations and archive researches, they aren’t certain. Its construction is dated back to a period which goes from the XII to the XIV century and that more than likely coincides with the XIII century and it is attributed to the initiative of Scaligeri who joint to the castles of Monzambano, Valeggio sul Mincio, Nogarole Rocca, Peschiera del Garda, Sirmione and many others, built in this area the south-western defence system at the border with Visconti and Gonzaga’s lands. The castle’s plant basically corresponds to the type of the scaligero Castle that is the castle-fence, which conforms itself to the natural conditions of the area where it arises.
