Villa La Rotonda by Andrea Palladio - World Heritage Site
About
Villa La Rotonda, also known as Villa Capra, stands just outside Vicenza in northern Italy as a paragon of Renaissance architecture. Conceived by Andrea Palladio in the late 16th century, its perfectly symmetrical square plan, four Ionic porticos, and a soaring dome—echoing the Pantheon—demonstrate Palladio’s mastery of proportion and classical rhetoric. Visitors are welcomed into the grand courtyard and its interior salons every Friday through Sunday, where the richly frescoed West and East salons bring allegorical tales to life, and the central domed hall, crowned by an oculus, invites a dramatic play of light. The villa’s grounds are open daily, offering contemplative walks amid manicured gardens that reflect the harmony between built environment and landscape.
