Dwejra Bay
About
Dwejra Bay, located on the island of Gozo in Malta, is a dramatic limestone coastal area that once featured the famous Azure Window—a 28‑metre natural arch that cast a quintessential sea‑scented silhouette over the bay. The arch, formed by centuries of wave erosion, held a prominent place in Malta’s tourist landscape until it collapsed in March 2017, leaving only underwater remains that now serve as a diving destination. The bay itself is part of the Gozo Nature Park, offering rugged cliffs, clear turquoise waters, and a range of marine life. Close to the former arch are the volcanic Fungus Rock and the adjacent Inland Sea, as well as the 17th‑century Dwejra Tower, a coastal watchtower that adds historical depth to the natural scenery. Visitors to Dwejra Bay today can explore the cliffs, observe the submerged remnants of the Azure Window, and enjoy the tranquil setting that once drew film crews and tourists alike.
