In the centre of Ulcinj there is the grave – turbe of a false messiah Sabbatai Zevi (Shabbetai Tzvi, Sabbatai Sevi), who developed a mass following and threatened rabbinical authority in Europe and the Middle East before he had been expelled from Istanbul to Ulcinj, by the sultan in 1673.
