Singel is a historic canal encircling Amsterdam’s city centre, once the city’s defensive moat. Today it stretches from the IJ bay to Muntplein, framing masterpieces of 17th‑century Dutch architecture along its banks. The canal is famed for its floating Bloemenmarkt, the world’s only flower market, and for its proximity to the vibrant red‑light district known as the Singelgebied.
