Trolltunga
About
Trolltunga, literally ‘the Troll’s Tongue’, is Norway’s most exhilarating mountain landmark, rising 700 m above the serene Ringedalsvatnet lake. The 27‑kilometre round‑trip from P2 Skjeggedal or the 20‑kilometre loop from P3 Mågelitopp takes between 8 and 12 hours, earning a reputation as a very demanding trek. Hikers are rewarded with one of the most iconic cliff views in the world, where the landscape unfolds from the fore‑topped fjord to sweeping alpine ridges. The route passes through scenic valleys, the historic Gryteskaret pass, and three emergency shelters, making it both accessible and safe for seasoned adventurers. Guided tours are available year‑round, with options ranging from day hikes to overnight stays, but hiking solo is only recommended during the open season (June – September).
