About

BÆRUMS VERK In 1610, Paul Smelter was given the King’s commission to set up a melting house, and the first smelting furnace in the country was built here. During the ironwork’s heyday, everything from cannon balls and cannons to bar iron were produced. Later items, such as ovens, hardware and machine parts gradually became the mainstays of production. Amongst others, Bærums Verk was owned by Norwegians first Prime Minister, Peder Anker, and the Works proved quite important for Norway during the Nordic war. Today we welcome you to these unique surroundings from the 1600’s industrial era. We offer you about 50 shops, craftsmen, workshops, galleries and eating establishments. Shopping, craftsmanship, history and culture are intertwined to give you exciting cultural and social experiences. We offer glassblowing, blacksmiths, galleries, handmade-designs, a museum that houses a unique collection of antique cast-iron ovens, contemporary sculptures and a modern mall.
