About

Johan Falkberget himself worked in the northern mines from an early age until he was 26. After 14 years in Oslo, he returned home to Rugeldalen in 1922 where he built and worked Ratvolden farm until his death in 1967. The farm lies 600 m from Falkberget?s birthplace by the Rugelsjoen lake. The old farmhouse at Ratvolden is now a museum. The Falkberget-Ringen literary society is responsible for guided tours of Ratvolden that give an insight into Falkberget?s life and oeuvre as well as into the nature and culture his books cover. There is a marked turn-off to Ratvolden from Route 30, about 20 km from the centre of Roros in the direction of Trondheim. The area is always open for walkers. From the car park at Ratvolden there are several marked paths that take you into ?Falkberget?s realm? ? the northern mines. In the summer, special guided walks are arranged, presented in a separate programme and available from the Roros Tourist Office, the Ratvolden Museum. At the entrance to the museum area there is a small café called Litjklettstuggu that sells books, art and gift items associated with Johan Falkberget.
