Garborgheimen literally means the home of Garborg, and was the childhood home of author Arne Garborg. It was built in 1849 and is one of the best preserved buildings in the local architectural style jærhus. The house is described in several of his works, among them “The Making of Daniel Braut”, “Peace” and “Haugtussa”. Here you can find the blue chest where he hid his non-christian books from his pietous father.Arne Garborg (1851-1924) championed the language of nynorsk new norwegian) and was Norway’s most important intellectual from mid 1890s.
