The fort at Wielka Ksieza Gora was undoubtedly the most powerful fortification located in the east of the German Empire. It is a unique example of the so called Festung from its early evolution period. It is still a valuable heritage site and the objective of pilgrimages of fortification lovers. Concept work on construction of fortifications started already in 1885-1886 and the construction itself began in 1889 and it ended in 1914 with over 22 shelters/bunkers/ammo shelters. In 1920, the fort was taken over by Polish military leadership, in 1926 the Festa was renamed as Dabrowski Fort. After the occupation, munitions and explosives warehouses were created in the bunkers. Soviet forces used heavy howitzers located at the conquered fort during the siege of Grudziadz in February and March of 1945. On 4.12.1998, the site was officially entered into the registry of heritage sites. Currently, Fort Wielka Ksieza Gora association is active on the site, which makes it possible to visit.
