About

The Basilica of the Holy Trinity stands as the newest major church within the Sanctuary of Fátima, a world‑famous Marian pilgrimage site in Portugal. Designed by Greek architect Alexandros Tombazis, its construction began in 1996 and the church was formally dedicated on 12 October 2007. The building showcases a striking modernist aesthetic, with clean geometric lines and a floor plan that accommodates up to 9,000 seated pilgrims. Inside, visitors find three interconnected chapels – the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Chapel of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and the Chapel of the Resurrection – each adorned with contemporary art and stained‑glass panels that narrate the history of the Fatima visions. The basilica’s spacious nave and thoughtfully designed acoustics support large pilgrimage ceremonies, while smaller prayer rooms offer quiet reflection for individual devotion.
