Founded in 1869, Ateneu Comercial do Porto opens its doors to the city with guided tours. On guided tours, you can see for the first time the first edition of Os Lusíadas by Luís Vaz de Camões. The collection of the Ateneu Comercial do Porto also includes an edition of the Holy Bible dating from 1500 and some original writings by Fernão Lopes. The library (40,000 titles and 80,000 volumes) is, in fact, the centerpiece of the secular institution of Porto, which is considered one of the best private libraries in the Iberian Peninsula. The valuable heritage extends to painting, sculpture and earthenware, including collections of a numismatic and medalistic nature, of great value.
