Cockburn’s Port Wine Lodge
About
Cockburn’s Port Wine Lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia boasts the world’s largest collection of Port stored in magnificent oak barrels and small rolling vats. Visitors are welcomed into a working lodge where the full winemaking process—from fermentation in a small white‑tannin vat to the aging of rare Limited‑Bottled Vintage—can be observed. The guided tour, lasting about 90 minutes, takes guests through the main tasting room, coopers’ workshop, and the iconic John Smithes Room where special edition ports are showcased. In addition to guided tastings, guests can choose from chocolate‑paired options or join the ‘Cask to Kitchen’ lunch experience, which pairs award‑winning Port with contemporary cuisine from Sagardi restaurant—all while overlooking the Douro River.
