St. George Church
About
Surrounding St George's Church, Lisbon is the beautiful and historic British Cemetery, dating from the early 1700's. Existing well before the church was built, it was the result of many years of negotiation to get permission to bury the dead of Protestant merchants living in Portugal. It is still open for burials and interment of cremated remains for those of British nationality or those with a close family connection to a British national or existing grave. It is also a quiet, garden space in the middle of the city, with exotic trees and shrubs in between the memorial crosses. Visitors are invited to explore the rich history of both the church and the cemetery. You can book a guided tour in advance or opt for a self-guided tour by purchasing our Cemetery brochure and the History of the Lisbon Chaplaincy book. St Georges Lisbon Sunday Service of Holy Communion at 11:30AM. All are welcome! The Cemetery & Church is open Mon - Fri 10:30AM - 1PM
