Castillo de Coca
About
The Castle of Coca (Castillo de Coca) is a stunning example of 15th‑century Mudéjar architecture located on the outskirts of the town of Coca in the province of Segovia, Spain. Built under a permit granted by King Juan II in 1453 and completed in 1493, the fortress was designed by the Moorish architect and engineer Alí Caro, blending brickwork, limestone and intricate geometric patterns that showcase a unique fusion of Moorish and Gothic styles. Today the castle is a protected National Monument and houses a forestry school, making it both a living educational center and a popular tourist destination. Visitors enter through a historic chapel, the "Capilla," and can explore the weapons room, the central keep known as the "Torre del Homenaje," as well as scenic ramps that offer panoramic views of the surrounding pinewoods and nearby villages. Guided tours are offered by ACTURE DE COCA S.C. and include special walkthroughs of the watchtower, the gallery, and the medieval cisterns. Admission costs are 3 € for general entries and 2.5 € for reduced rates (children 6‑14 and seniors 65+). Reservations are required at least 48 hours in advance, and the castle is closed on the first Tuesday of every month, during the Christmas period (24, 25, 31 Dec and 1, 5, 6 Jan) and for the entire month of January. The castle reopens to visitors on Saturdays, for example on 3 February. The phone line for booking and inquiries is 617 573 554, and emails can be sent to visitascastillodecoca@hotmail.com.
