Cueva de los Verdes
About
The Cueva de los Verdes is a spectacular lava tube on Lanzarote, formed around 4,000 years ago by the eruption of the Monte Corona volcano. Covering nearly six kilometres, the cave features a dramatic entrance that opens onto a 1.5‑kilometre underground tunnel, where shafts, stalactites and stalagmites produce a captivating play of colour and light. Historically, the cavern served as a refuge for villagers against pirate raids, a testament to its protective and mystical aura. Opened to visitors since the 1960s, the site offers a guided tour that lasts about an hour, taking you through the most visually striking chambers before returning to the entrance. The cave is also home to an auditorium that hosts concerts and theatrical performances from October onward, creating a unique blend of natural wonder and cultural activity. Visitors can buy their entrance tickets online via the official website; physical ticket sales are not available on site. The ticket prices range from 16 € for adults to free entry for children aged 0‑6, with special rates for Canary Islands residents and a 30 % discount for people with disabilities. The resort operates daily from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm, with the last admission at 4:45 pm, ensuring ample lead time for a memorable exploration of this volcanic marvel.
