The Via Verde Green Route
About
The Via Verde Benicàssim–Oropesa is an 11‑km linear trail that follows the old railway line once used to connect the Mediterranean port of Benicàssim to the coastal town of Oropesa. The path is almost entirely flat, with gentle gradients of just 50 m, making it suitable for walkers, cyclists, and even dog‑walkers of all ages. Along the route you will encounter the historic Colomera and Corda watchtowers, narrow stone tunnels, and a sea‑side promenade that offers panoramic views of the cliffs and the distance sea. The trail is free to use, with public parking available near the Voramar beach and at the Palassiet office. It is one of the most popular local walks, visited by families, locals, and tourists alike. The most convenient times are late spring to early autumn in early afternoons, when the weather is mild and the crowds are manageable. Because the path can become very busy on sunny afternoons, a headlamp or front‑light is advised for the long tunnel near the coast, where lighting has been out of service for many years. Whether you are a casual stroller, a keen cyclist, or just looking for a scenic, historic route to learn about the area’s maritime past, the Via Verde offers a unique experience with little to no cost beyond the time you spend on foot or on bike.
