Basilica de la Virgen del Pino
About
The Basilica de Nuestra Señora del Pino is a Neoclassical Roman Catholic basilica situated in the historic town of Teror on Gran Canaria. Construction of the present building began in 1760 and was completed in 1767, following the 1757 designs of the local architect. The basilica was consecrated the same year and later declared a papal basilica‑minor in 1916, making it the first such church in the Canary Islands. Dedicated to the Virgen del Pino, the basilica houses a striking 18‑th‑century altar and a revered statue of the Virgin, which is a focal point for pilgrimages and local tradition. Beyond its architectural significance, the basilica serves as a cultural landmark and a peaceful retreat for visitors who wish to explore the charm of the island’s religious heritage.
