Saying Marqués de Vargas is mentioning a family lineage spanning four generations passionately dedicated to the production and commercialization of excellent and outstanding Rioja wines. Our history dates back to the year 1840 when Don Felipe de la Mata, the VIII Marqués de Vargas, decided to plant the first vines on the Pradolagar Estate. Marqués de Vargas was founded with a philosophy inspired by French Châteaux, crafting Reservas and Grandes Reservas exclusively from the grapes of their own vineyards surrounding the winery. These wines mature under optimal conditions in selected French oak barrels from the finest cooperages. In these barrels, Marqués de Vargas produces their exceptional aged wines, which have been distinguished with the prestigious "Single Vineyard" designation by the D.O.Ca. Rioja, thanks to the extraordinary characteristics of their plots, the distinctiveness of their production process, and their commitment to traditional manual grape harvesting.
