El Botanico
About
The spirit of Paris in Madrid There was a time in which Madrid wished to be like Paris, and this lovely district "Los Jeronimos" is the outcome of such pursuit... It was our King Alfonso XIII, who after travelling across the old continent, realized that Madrid did not have a majestic district in line with Europe's trends back in 1900. Manuel Hidalgo, in his novel "Las meninas andan sueltas", mentioned that these Maids of Honour used to escape the painting to walk around the Prado and, in one street leading access to the Retiro Park, they used to relax in a majestic terrace as in the King's dreams for Madrid. Most likely the writer was thinking of "El Botánico Café". El Botánico is placed in a privileged location surrounded by the Prado Museum, the Botánico Garden, the Jerónimo's Church, the Retiro Park and the magnificents hotels Ritz and The Palace. El Botánico has been a witness of the world of culture, cinema and aristocracy, with characters such as Sir Paul Mc Cartney, Bono (U2), the Princess Elena .... and many other world citizens who have chosen Terraza El Botánico to enjoy a peaceful moment.
