Playa de Sa Coma
About
Playa de Sa Coma lies about five kilometres from the port of Portocristo on the island of Mallorca, in the municipality of Sa Coma. The beach is a generous stretch of fine‑grained white sand that runs roughly 800 metres along the coast, surrounded by clear, turquoise waters and extensive posidonia meadows – a characteristic feature of the Balearic Sea. The shoreline is flat and sheltered, making it safe for swimming, snorkeling and calm water activities. The area is well known for its wildlife encounters; dolphins can often be spotted gliding just offshore, adding an extra element of wonder to a day by the sea. For those who enjoy an active beach day, Playa de Sa Coma offers both diving and windsurfing facilities, along with a rental kiosk that supplies gear. The beach’s natural setting also provides a peaceful backdrop for long walks or sun‑bathing, and its proximity to the scenic Punta de n'Amer headland offers scenic viewpoints and a sense of remoteness. Facilities are minimal but functional – there are public toilets, a kiosk and rescue equipment on hand, with the area under high vigilance from the local rescue service. In addition, a local municipal tourist information office is nearby to provide maps and safety tips. The beach gains a reputation for being generous and accessible to car and bus traffic, with a small parking lot and a bus stop just 50 m from the shore. Even though it is a popular destination for both locals and foreign visitors, the beach remains a tranquil retreat that prioritises natural beauty and family‑friendly enjoyment.
