The Eiger
About
The Eiger is a towering 3,967‑metre summit in the Bernese Alps, famed for its dramatic north face that has challenged alpinists for over a century. Nestled between the picturesque valleys of Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen, the mountain offers breathtaking views of the Jungfrau–Aletsch region and a rugged, limestone‑crusted ridge. The north face, stretching close to 1,800 metres, earned the nickname “Mordwand” (murder wall) after a number of fatal climbing attempts, yet it remains a thrilling destination for seasoned climbers and adventure seekers alike. For casual trekkers, the Eiger can be approached via the scenic Eiger Trail and the iconic Jungfrau Railway stations Eigerwand and Eismeer, providing accessible viewpoints without the need for technical climbing.
