The Stadtbad’s hammam takes inspiration from the traditional turkish baths with a central navel stone and surrounding wash-niches and baths. Modern architecture and natural materials as well as artistic design give the baths their own unique atmosphere. The baths are an introverted environment removed from the outside world. The city fades away and body and soul begin to soar... The hammam itself fulfils the function of intensive bodily cleansing. The warm, moisturizing atmosphere is ideal for deep skin-cleanses with the kese (peeling-glove) and traditional hammam soap made from olive oil. To complete the bathing ritual, a healing chalk pack (Heilkreide?) may be applied to the body for ultimate baby-soft skin. In addition to cleansing rituals the hammam has a deeply relaxing effect on body and soul in equal measure: the warmth and spatially induced comfort are reminiscent of a mother’s womb... Take the time to spend at least 2 hours in the hammam, and stay longer if you can, as time does go by so fast...
