American Air Museum
About
The American Air Museum at Imperial War Museum Duxford showcases a stunning collection of United States Air Forces aircraft from World War II to the Cold War. Designed by Norman Foster and Chris Wise, the fan‑shaped torus building spans 300 ft in width and 61 ft in height, providing a dramatic backdrop for iconic planes such as the B‑52 Stratofortress, SR‑71 Blackbird, and B‑17 Flying Fortress. Beyond the aircraft themselves, the museum offers immersive exhibits that chronicle the American air war in Europe, complete with a dedicated wing of airmen’s personal items, documentary footage, and interactive displays. Visitors can step into the cockpit of the B‑52 to experience the feel of a supersonic bomber and witness the sleek black silhouette of the SR‑71 up close—a truly unforgettable journey through aviation history.
