Pittville Park
About
Pittville Park, originally opened in 1825, is Cheltenham’s largest ornamental park, spanning over 40 acres of landscaped lawns, lakes, and woodland. The centerpiece is the magnificent 19th‑century Pittville Pump Room, a Grade I listed building that once housed a Victorian gas and water fountain and now serves as a heritage venue and tea room. The park’s green flag award and its Grade II listing underscore its significance as a classic example of English park design. Walking across the eastern and western halves of the park, visitors encounter a wealth of wildlife and family‑friendly attractions. The eastern side houses a spacious children’s play area, aviaries that host a variety of birds and bunnies, and a kiosk offering refreshments. The western side features a larger lower lake ideal for fishing during the season, a pitch‑and‑putt golf course, tennis courts, a skate park, and quiet woodland paths that encourage bird watching and nature study. The park is open to the public year‑round, with free admission and walking paths that invite families, nature lovers, and sports enthusiasts alike. Whether you’re strolling past the historic Pump Room, spotting local birds in the aviaries, enjoying a relaxed game of tennis, or simply soaking up the serene woodland scenery, Pittville Park offers a quintessential English garden experience near the heart of Cheltenham.
