The Hare and Hounds, Layer Breton
About
The Hare and Hounds sits within the rural picturesque village of Layer Breton. The pub was built in 1662 and has a fantastic reputation for delicious food and a warm and welcoming environment. In 1906 The Hare and Hounds, then owned by the Colchester Brewery, was of brick and tile or brick and slate, old but moderate with three bedrooms on the first floor and one small room. The Ground floor consisted of a kitchen, pantry, living room, sitting room, bar, bar parlour and club room with two cellars, a meadow and garden with several outbuildings. Back then it was worth a mere £1,650. The Pub has come a long way since then with one of the barn outbuilding having been converted into 2 stylish Lodges it now provides en-suite bed and breakfast accommodation. The meadow which overlooks the glorious Layer Breton Heath has also been adapted and shaped to provide superb camping facilities and is also a fabulous spot for outdoor events and functions. The Hare & Hounds has a relaxed yet chic Restaurant that is renowned for its fine dining experience and because of the pub's great location there is lots to do and see.
