Christchurch Gardens
About
A great community green space in the heart of Leamington. Courts for tennis and basketball can be booked for a small fee. The local Friends group is active in ensuring the Gardens are well loved and maintained. The 2022 Commonwealth Games (when Leamington hosted bowling) are commemorated with a beautifully made, quirky, wooden fingerpost pointing to other Leamingtons in the Commonwealth. Local news is shared through a community noticeboard. And Art Box, a listed K9 red telephone box on the edge of the Gardens exhibits local community art. The Gardens have an interesting history. They were originally laid out in the 1820s with a church facing down the Parade, creating a focal point at the end of this busy street. It was a privately owned church which initially charged admission (half price for servants). Unfortunately, the congregation dwindled and it fell into disrepair leading to its demolition in the late 1950s.
