About

The Meffan Museum and Art Gallery is located right at the heart of the Forfar community in a building, opened on 20th October 1898, that was gifted by Miss Jane Meffan in memory of her father (former Provost of the Town) for the “moral and intellectual improvement of the community of Forfar”. Within the museum space, you can explore The Forfar Story, by wandering through a recreation of a cobbled Vennel (narrow street). You can say hello to several local characters at work, including Peter Reid in his sweet shop, a Weaver at work, a Knockmaker repairing clocks and an exhausted Baker, with his tempting Forfar Bridies fresh from the oven. You can also marvel at our fine display of enigmatic Pictish Stones, which forms part of the Angus Pictish Trail. Our Gallery hosts a diverse programme of art exhibitions across the year bringing the work of local, national, and internationally renowned artists to Forfar as well as showcasing new & emerging talent in our acclaimed Winter Show.
