Water of Leith Walkway
About
The Water of Leith Walkway is a 19‑kilometre (12‑mile) pedestrian and cycle path that traces the River Leith from the town of Balerno up to the sandy docks of Leith in Edinburgh. The route is almost entirely off‑road, running alongside the river on a mixture of tarmac, compressed grit and earth, and is marked with clear signposts that reveal its mild incline and scenic views. Highlights include the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, the historic Dean Gallery and the iconic Victoria Swing Bridge at the mouth of the waterway. Whether you’re an avid walker, a leisurely stroller, or a cyclist looking for a relaxed ride, the path offers a blend of urban, parkland and riverbank scenery that showcases Edinburgh’s natural and cultural heritage.
