This awareness of nature and its rhythms continues inside. Flooded with natural light from huge floor-to-ceiling windows, almost every room in this luxury self-catering stay offers captivating views of the local countryside. Literally step into those views via the first-floor wrap-around balcony and truly immerse yourself in the beauty of the surroundings. Slick interiors are softened by natural wood, velvety textures and plenty of nooks and crannies to rest. A spacious open plan living area provides squishy sofas for weary bodies, from adults choosing to chill with a book to children sprawled out with a board game or sleepy pups getting toasty by the woodburner. For those who feel most at home in the kitchen, stock up on wine, gin, apple juice, jams and chutneys from the farm shop next door. Settle in around the huge dining table or throw open the doors and take the party outside and enjoy dining in the fresh air. Fire up the grill on balmy summer evenings for a smoky slant on al fresco eating. Five luxury bedrooms spread out over the ground and first floors offer the sweetest slumber imaginable. Four are kingsize – one with a walk-in wet room – while the fifth has two bunk beds, ideal for four kids. Two further bathrooms complete the picture of comfort. Outside A sunrise yoga session out on the terrace, a glass of something cold in the wood-fired hot tub or a cup of steaming hot chocolate snuggled up by the firepit – there isn’t a single spot in Heron House’s grounds that isn’t surrounded by bliss. Whether it’s finding a patch of sunlight to indulge in a solo morning coffee or a sunny spot to enjoy an aperitif while gazing out over beautiful countryside, Heron House’s garden oasis has myriad patio and decking areas for all-day and all-evening enjoyment, with ample seating for full-on feasts or low-key gatherings. Or explore the wider grounds. Wander through the vineyard, take the children to let off some steam in the onsite play area and fairy trail, and indulge in a slice of cake at the Vineyard Kitchen. Further afield, dog walks, hikes and a sparkling coastline beckon. When the light fades, sink into the welcoming hot tub with flutes of chilled, freshly poured Heron Farm English Sparkling Wine and watch the stars come out.
