About

The Cornish Seal Sanctuary is a dedicated rescue and rehabilitation centre located on the banks of the Helford River in Gweek, Cornwall. Since its opening in 1975, the sanctuary has cared for thousands of seal pups, providing medical treatment, nutrition support and behavioural enrichment to ensure they are fit for release. Visitors can witness the gentle giant grey seals, common seals and resident sea lions in a variety of pools, including the Harbour View and Nursery pools that showcase day‑to‑day care. Beyond the seals, the sanctuary also hosts an impressive collection of puffins, Southern sea lions, Humboldt penguins and more. The underwater viewing areas provide a close‑up view of the animals’ natural behaviours, while the rescue hospital offers an educational glimpse into the science behind marine wildlife rehabilitation. Each year the sanctuary re‑introduces about 70 seal pups to their native coastal waters, a testament to the life‑saving work of the Sea Life Trust. In addition to its rescue mission, the sanctuary offers group education sessions, school bookings and special events such as Christmas at the Sanctuary. All visitors are encouraged to bring a printed receipt or digital confirmation of their ticket in order to gain unlimited access for the next 12 months, making the experience highly convenient for repeat visitors.
