Glencoe National Nature Reserve
About
Glencoe National Nature Reserve is a breathtaking 14,000‑acre wilderness nestled in the heart of Scotland’s Highlands. The gorge is carved by ancient volcanic eruptions and was shaped by successive glaciers, giving rise to dramatic peaks such as Buachaille Etive Mòr, the Three Sisters, and the iconic Pap of Glencoe. Visitors can wander over 37 miles of forested footpaths, explore the visitor centre’s reconstructed 17th‑century turf house, and learn about the tragic 1692 Massacre of Glencoe. The reserve is a haven for wildlife, offering sightings of golden eagles, ptarmigan, and a range of rare alpine plants. With free entry, the site welcomes families, history enthusiasts, walkers, and nature lovers alike, inviting them to experience Scotland’s dramatic scenery, rich heritage, and serene natural habitats.
