About

This venue is now open for the 2025 season and we look forward to welcoming new visitors and old friends. This iconic building, dating from 1804, is one of our direct links to the great Scottish writer. Here, Sir Walter Scott sat as Sheriff of Selkirkshire, dispensing justice for nearly 30 years until his death in 1832. Inside you will discover the fascinating story of Scott’s relationship with the town, through the permanent displays of personal objects which once belonged to this world-renowned writer of great literary works. A small gift shop area stocks some of these works along with titles covering a range of interests. We are pleased to bring you our Souters’ Routes Guided Walks, where our guides will take you back through time as you walk the streets of Selkirk learning history as you take the same footsteps as Sir Walter Scott did once himself- see our website for booking details. Entry is Free, with donations very welcome.
