About

- this place is Temporarily closed "One of the most important schools in England", this School Museum is open weekly in Spring and Summer and for events in Winter (see website for details), celebrating the contribution of self-styled "inventor" of infant education, Samuel Wilderspin. His Model School and Playground of 1845 has been faithfully restored to demonstrate his Infant System, and other historic classrooms show what school was like in late Victorian England, during the wartime years 1939-45, and the post war decades of the 1950s and 60s. Spend time reflecting on your own schooldays and childhood in the Reminiscence Classroom with self-serve simple refreshments. We're fully accessible with ample car parking. Quality refreshments are availabe from cafes within a few minutes' walk (you're welcome to leave your car with us while you explore our histric market town and Conservation Area). Our staff can direct you to other museums and visitor sites nearby in the town including the Humber Bridge and Humber Bank.
