George and Dragon
About
The George & Dragon is a traditional country pub nestled in the heart of the picturesque village of Downe, near Bromley. Famously known as the home of Charles Darwin. He resided in the old section of the pub when he was looking for the right property in the area. After finding Down House he then went on to frequent the pub where he based his club to help those in financial need. We love our history but we love our food and drink even more. We have a wide variety of real ales, lagers and fine wines on offer. Alan, our cellar man, has 40+ years experience and keeps a tasty Real Ale which currently are Timothy Taylors Landlord, Harveys Sussex Best, Fullers London Pride, and we also have a guest ale on rotation. We've recently added an exciting wine list to our collection which has a fantastic range of wines for you to enjoy. Whether you want accompany your meal with a bold Malbec, Chablis or enjoy a Prosecco with friends we have some quality wines to suit your taste. Food is our passion and all of our menu is homemade. We try to match the traditional pub with a traditional menu so pies are our main speciality with seven options currently available. We do have to warn our customers to bring a healthy appetite with them as our portions are on the generous side.
