Queen Victoria Memorial
About
The Queen Victoria Memorial stands in the heart of London, fronting Buckingham Palace on The Mall. Designed by sculptor Sir Thomas Brock and set in 2,300 tonnes of white Carrara marble, the imposing monument rises 25 metres (82 ft) above the ground and features a gilded bronze winged victory above a globe. Around the central pylon, five bronze groups personify Virtues—Courage, Constancy, Victory, Charity, and Truth—while a bronze statue of Queen Victoria herself faces the palace. The memorial is flanked by the Dominion Gates, which honor the Commonwealth countries, and surrounded by the Memorial Gardens, a landscaped terrace laid out in a semi‑circular design that hosts flower beds and formal pathways for double‑handed marchers. The site is free to visit, open daily from 5 am until midnight, and is a favourite spot for both locals and tourists seeking a view of the palace, a touch of Victorian grandeur, and a quiet place to reflect.
