Croft Castle and Parkland
About
Croft Castle and Parkland is a National Trust property located near Leominster in Herefordshire, England. The estate spans over 1,500 acres of historic parkland, woodland, and farmland, and features a 17th‑century manor house that has served as the home of the Croft family for nearly a thousand years. Visitors can explore the castle’s richly decorated rooms and the adjacent 12th‑century Church of St Michael and All Angels, which remains in use today. The gardens are a highlight, with colourful herbaceous borders, a secret garden, a historic walled garden, a small wine‑growing vineyard, and old apple trees providing a picturesque setting for leisurely strolls. The parkland offers dramatic walks around the scenic Fishpool Valley, complete with a grotto, a lime kiln, and the Iron Age hillfort of Croft Ambrey. The site is fully accessible, with blue‑badge parking, accessible routes around the grounds, and wheelchair‐friendly toilets and mobility scooter hire. Admission to the whole property is chargeable, though National Trust members can enter for free. The best times to visit are spring and early autumn when the gardens are in bloom and crowds are thinner.
