Cragside's little neighbour with a big story to tell. Cragend Farm Hydraulic Silo Tower is a unique Grade II* listed building of National Importance with Historic England. It was designed and built by Lord Armstrong of Cragside in the 1880's to make silage for his prize cattle that lived at Cragend Farm for him to show to his friends along with Victorian machinery, a hydraulic hoist, two turbines and a weigh bridge. Powered by water from the Blackburn Lake on Cragside this site is full of history and interest. Take an award winning tour of this Northumberland site and learn about its history and visit the machinery. An amazing collection of agricultural and ancient artefacts dating back to Roman times.
