Saltram (National Trust)
About
Saltram House is a magnificent George II era mansion perched beside the Laira estuary in Plympton, a suburb of Plymouth. Designed by the celebrated neoclassical architect Robert Adam, the house showcases some of the finest interior decoration in the country, including the sumptuous Saloon with its exquisite plasterwork and the opulent St. Anne's Gallery. The surrounding parkland, laid out by 18th‑century landscape designer Nathaniel Richmond, boasts verdant lawns, flowerbeds, and the iconic Castle Folly – a small castle‑style summerhouse that dominates the garden. Visitors wander through richly furnished rooms filled with art, furniture, and priceless antique collections; the house is also home to a small café, a shop, and a tea room offering local delights. Open to the public year‑round, Saltram House invites guests to experience this living monument to Georgian architecture and the story of the Parker family who shaped its history.
