About
The D-Day Story, located on Clarence Esplanade in Portsmouth, is the United Kingdom’s sole museum devoted to the icons and personal stories of Operation Overlord. Opened in 1984 and refurbished in 2018, the exhibition is split into three sections – preparation, the D‑Day landings, and the legacy that followed. Visitors can walk through the ‘Legacy’ gallery, home to the 83‑metre Overlord Embroidery, and experience the last surviving landing‑craft tank LCT 7074, which once ferried a full men‑of‑war into Normandy. Audio‑guided tours in several languages and interactive displays bring the drama and heroism of the day to life for historians, families and veterans alike.
