In 1960, Dick and Jennifer Sankey took on what is arguably one of the most stunning pubs in the South East. Renowned for its fine food and lively atmosphere, The George & Dragon became the beating heart of Speldhurst. More than just a pub, it was the birthplace of Sankey’s hospitality journey. Following Jennifer’s passing in the mid-1990s, the Sankey family made the difficult decision to sell the pub to Brakspear. Now, nearly three decades later, The George & Dragon is back in Sankey hands. As lifelong Speldhurst residents and the third generation of our family in hospitality, we’re proud to return to where it all began. Working alongside Brakspear, we’re committed to restoring the pub to its former glory—bringing exceptional food, great beer, and a warm welcome back to the heart of the village.
