Scarborough Open Air Theatre
About
Scarborough Open Air Theatre is England’s largest historic seaside open‑air venue, offering panoramic views of North Bay and the North Sea. It hosts winter‑to‑summer concerts, music festivals and cultural events in a 1930s‑era pavilion that was restored in 2010 and can hold up to 8,000 patrons. The theatre’s season runs from early May to mid‑September, with a diverse program that ranges from pop to classical music and hosts some of the country’s most celebrated acts. In addition to its regular season, the theatre is home to Scarborough Sparkle, a free festive event held each year from Friday 28 to Sunday 30 November. The Sparkle celebration lights up the theatre with twinkling lights, a festive market of handmade gifts and treats, live music from the Backchat Brass Band and local choirs, fairground rides for children, and special appearances such as Santa’s sleigh and a snow machine. With free entry and family‑friendly activities, Scarborough Sparkle offers a memorable, budget‑friendly community outing that showcases the theatre’s enduring role as a cultural hub and seaside attraction.
