Monsal Trail
About
Monsal Trail is a 13.7‑kilometre (8.5‑mile) corridor that traces the former railway line through Derbyshire’s dramatic Peak District. Stretching from Topley Pike junction east of Buxton to the Coombs Viaduct near Bakewell, the route weaves past historic mills, lush valleys, and six iconic tunnels, offering a blend of natural beauty and industrial heritage. Opened to the public in 1981, the trail is part of National Cycle Network Route 680 and forms a key link in the White Peak Loop, connecting Buxton, Bakewell, and Matlock. Accessibility is a priority: many points—including Bakewell, Hassop railway station, and Millers Dale—feature level access and disabled toilets, making the trail welcoming for all visitors. Whether you’re strolling, biking, horse‑riding, or joining the weekly parkrun, Monsal Trail’s scenic paths, historic landmarks, and inclusive facilities ensure a memorable outing in one of England’s most beloved landscapes.
